Eva Chen, the author of Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes and A Is for Awesome, is a first-generation Chinese-American who grew up in New York City. She blames her deviation from pre-med at Johns Hopkins University on a love of fashion and beauty instilled in her by her mother, whose perfect bob and lipstick made a permanent imprint on her impressionable young mind. Previously the editor in chief of Lucky, Eva has also written for ELLE, Vogue,Teen Vogue,Vogue China, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. She is currently the head of fashion partnerships at Instagram, where she is guilty of the occasional duck-face selfie. Eva lives in New York City with her husband and two children.Derek Desierto is a Vancouver-based illustrator, designer, and overall nice guy from a nice family. His animation work has been recognized by the Ottawa International Animation Festival, the National Cartoonist Society, and 9 Story Media Group. Currently, he is living the dream as a freelance artist for animated TV shows and picture books. His ultimate goal in life is to meet Oprah and become one of her Favorite Things.

Why stick with plain old A, B, C when you can have Amelia (Earhart), Malala, Tina (Turner), Ruth (Bader Ginsburg), all the way to eXtraordinary You―and the Zillion of adventures you will go on?

Instagram superstar Eva Chen, author of Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes, is back with an alphabet board book depicting feminist icons in A Is for Awesome: 23 Iconic Women Who Changed the World, featuring spirited illustrations by Derek Desierto.

Disappointed! I wanted to love this book, I really did! I love Eva Chen and have been following her on IG for ever. I was expecting some of her humor and sparkling personality to show up in her books but this is just awful. Some of the women have a small description of why they’re awesome but then some like Dorothy Hodgkin say: D is for Dorothy a crystallographer who won the Nobel Prize for succeeding in the impossible. And that’s it! A little extra research wouldn’t have gone amiss and neither would better writing skills. Some of the female icons have a quote printed which simply doesn’t co-relate to the blurb next to it. And my 3 year old who LOVES reading just didn’t want to read it again. She’s read her Little People Big Dreams books about 50 times and while a little young, still loved the Ordinary People Change the Wod series too.Wonderful Love this book. My daughter loved seeing Juno. She recognized some of the women from the Juno Valentine book which made her smile. We also have a number of the Little People, Big Dreams books and it delighted her to recognize some of the women in this book. The end is absolutely phenomenal. While it’s a board book, it’s great for all ages. There were a few women I was excited to research on my own!If you enjoy books that empower youth while also entertain them, then this is a perfect pick! Purchased this for my granddaughter and she absolutely loved it! What an empowering and motivational book for kids of all ages! Keep up the great work Eva! Come visit a bookstore in Wisconsin sometime!

Brain Games - Picture Puzzles Free Pdf

ISBN: 1412716586
Title: Brain Games - Picture Puzzles Pdf #5
Author: Publications International
Published Date: 2008-12
Page: 192
This is the fifth book in the popular Brain Games: Picture Puzzles series. Two or more pictures that seemingly are identical are presented on the same page, but subtle changes have been made to one of the pictures. It's up to you to find what has been altered.

The book is divided into four sections of pictures puzzles, each progressively more difficult. Can t find all the changes? No problem solutions to all the puzzles are provided in the final section of the book.

The book is spiral-bound and handy to use, no matter whether you are at home, on public transportation, in a long security line at the airport, or relaxing at poolside or on the beach. Take along Brain Games: Picture Puzzles #5 wherever you go stimulate your mind a few minutes at a time.

The Brain Games: Picture Puzzles series was developed to challenge your powers of observation and stimulate your ability to focus and concentrate. All books in the series contain unique content.

Good book, well done. Good for a person who has a problem with memory and needs a “work out!”Hours and pages of brain stimulating fun! Hours of brain stimulating fun! The photos are colorful, big and vibrant. A great bedtime or travel activity. Good for kids and adults. The coiled binding is not the best quality but that's not a big issue.Addictive and Fun Visual Puzzles I've had several of these and have to say there's something pretty awesome about just whipping this book out and solving the visual puzzles by myself, or with a friend. You have several levels from easy to hard (pretty much fewer, bigger changes to many more smaller ones), as well as the puzzle types:1. Find X changes in the picture2. Locate the one change in 4-6 (almost identical) mini pictures3. Compare one page to another with the same image for 1 or more changesThere are a ton of different subjects and image types, it can definitely get addicting and sometimes frustrating (with one of the changes right in front of your face!). If you love visual puzzles with the versatility to keep you entertained for short or extended periods of time, check this series out.

JUDY DOUGLASS, WRITER, SPEAKER, ENCOURAGER, DIRECTOR, CRU WOMEN'S RESOURCESElizabeth invites you to engage scripture, worship music, prayer, and honesty with your Creator. This is a book that I will read multiple times as Elizabeth has shown me where God is in plain sight in the wilderness of suffering. DR. PENNY NELSON FREEMAN, LICENSED COUNSELOR AND TRAINERIf you allow yourself to take this interactive journey of meditation, you may well find a place where your own heart will grow in trust and grace, even in the hard. RUTH ANN BATSTONE, COUNSELOR AND MENTOR, SERGE; SENIOR STAFF CONSULTANT, PARAKALEOWith acute accuracy Elizabeth names my deepest fears. With gentle probing she invites me to trust my Father. With an economy of words she creates space for faith to flourish. SHARI THOMAS, FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF PARAKALEO

Whether you are the caregiver or the patient, the “what-if’s” of the waiting room can feel terrifying, and the wait can feel agonizing. Cancer, tumor, stroke, traumatic injury, or major surgery—a health crisis of any kind involves waiting. This waiting arouses many emotions: fear, uncertainty, sorrow, agony, and anger among them. In this devotional for caregivers and patients, Elizabeth Reynolds Turnage reminds us of the certain hope and surpassing peace of the gospel: God has worked miraculous deeds and redemptive wonders in the past, and Jesus will “soon” come again to end our wait, and to bring full and final healing. These sixty meditations for peace and hope will encourage you as you wait.

Endorsements:

This brilliant book is a tender gift of the presence of God for those caught in the deep woods of medical uncertainty. When we are in the hospital waiting for resolution, we don’t need a long chapter of admonitions or vague mumblings of comfort. We need a guide who has traversed this terrain and has a compass and a map to help us orient our journey. Elizabeth Turnage offers a wisdom that has been hard won, meets the test of the gospel, and is beautifully and brilliantly written. I can’t recommend this book more highly than to say you need a copy for yourself and eventually for every friend or family member who is called to wait for redemption.

Dan B. Allender PhD, Professor of Counseling Psychology, Founding PresidentThe Seattle School of Theology and Psychology

Elizabeth writes to anyone who finds themselves in the waiting room of God’s sovereign purposes. She meets us there as an empathetic friend reminding us what is true in His Word, urging us to listen to the refreshing lyrics of the gospel, as she beautifully models what it means to lift our eyes to the Father who is faithful to meet us in the midst of our suffering.

Karen Hodge, Coordinator of Women’s Ministries Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)

Each meditation includes:
  • A relevant Bible verse.
  • A brief story related to waiting in a health care crisis.
  • A gospel reality that brings peace and hope.
  • A brief concluding prayer.
  • One or two suggestions for further action—Bible reading, links to music, reflection questions, other calming activities.

When words fail you Sometimes in the darkest seasons of life, we find it difficult to put words to the conflicting thoughts and feelings we're experiencing or to provide the right words of hope and comfort to the loved ones we're called to come alongside. Elizabeth so eloquently names these longings and sufferings in a way that rings true to the reader. Through beautifully thought out biblical devotionals as well as song, she brings hope, comfort and wisdom that are so needed during health crisis or other life traumas. The stories she shares are of her own season of crisis where she was thrown into multiple roles as caregiver and warrior. Whatever, you are going through, Elizabeth gets it, and more importantly, she points you to Christ who really gets it. He is well acquainted with our sufferings and Elizabeth reminds us of the hope and comfort found knowings his eyes are on us and He never lets go.Have You Ever Spent Time in the Waiting Room? I have. Waiting with friends and loved ones. Waiting alone. Waiting on results. Waiting for news. Waiting for hope. Hoping the wait will be worth it.In The Waiting Room, author Elizabeth Reynolds Turnage offers 60 brief meditations for those who find themselves all too often in The Waiting Room, facing an unexpected and unwanted health crisis or injury. What a helpful resource! Each of the 60 meditations is accompanied by a prayer, a Scripture passage and link to a song, and a reflection question to help you think further about the topic. The meditations also are mercifully short, perfect for reading in the waiting room when you never know when you'll be called on next.A helpful book for all the waiting of our lives Waiting is a part of life. We wait in lines, to hear from a college, to get a job, to find a spouse, to have a baby, for a wayward child to return….And we wait in medical waiting rooms: for a diagnosis, through a surgery, for news—hopefully good, too often bad. Elizabeth Turnage, in The Waiting Room, sits with us, offering understanding, peace and courage. She takes us right to our God through her personal story of waiting room ordeals, through God’s Word, in prayer. And she conveys perspective for the difficulty of today, comfort and strength for the ongoing journey and great hope for the future. This is a helpful book for all the waiting of our lives.

In Pieces Download

ISBN: B079L57W1M
Title: In Pieces Pdf
In this intimate, haunting literary memoir and New York Times Notable Book of the year, an American icon tells her own story for the first time -- about a challenging and lonely childhood, the craft that helped her find her voice, and a powerful emotional legacy that shaped her journey as a daughter and a mother.

One of the most celebrated, beloved, and enduring actors of our time, Sally Field has an infectious charm that has captivated the nation for more than five decades, beginning with her first TV role at the age of seventeen. From Gidget's sweet-faced "girl next door" to the dazzling complexity of Sybil to the Academy Award-worthy ferocity and depth of Norma Rae and Mary Todd Lincoln, Field has stunned audiences time and time again with her artistic range and emotional acuity. Yet there is one character who always remained hidden: the shy and anxious little girl within.

With raw honesty and the fresh, pitch-perfect prose of a natural-born writer, and with all the humility and authenticity her fans have come to expect, Field brings readers behind-the-scenes for not only the highs and lows of her star-studded early career in Hollywood, but deep into the truth of her lifelong relationships--including her complicated love for her own mother. Powerful and unforgettable, In Pieces is an inspiring and important account of life as a woman in the second half of the twentieth century.

So glad Ms. Fields took time perfecting her memoir, it was worth the wait. Sally Field’s memoir IN PIECES was seven years in the making. She wrote it without the help of a ghostwriter. The book is quite revealing, intimate, and depicts incredibly haunting childhood memories that are revealed for the first time publicly. My guess, she must have taken one deep breath before she decided to come forward about what’s in the pages. She’s indicated, that she wasn’t sure she would be able to proceed with it. It is upsetting to know that this successful woman who clearly took the reins and made a career for herself from a very young age and has maintained it, which is no easy feat in this world and especially in Hollywood, but that something as horrific as childhood sexual abuse was considered so shameful that she had to keep it a secret from her own mother until so late into her adult life. Given that one of the most prominent news stories today is up for debate, perhaps, not so surprising, that it is still a challenge for a young woman to be able to come forward without fear of backlash.Field’s book is remarkable. How she handles herself, despite numerous setbacks, her ability to take care of herself and navigate a male-dominated profession, and most of all, to go after what she wanted without the assistance of two reliable parents. Now that I know her full story, I greatly admire her, not only for her shiny awards but for her personal triumphs. You're only as sick as the secrets that you keep. Wow! I actually read this engaging, honest and illuminating memoir in one sitting. The brutal honesty and objectivity that Ms Field displays in openly discovering and relating her life-long battle with self-esteem and why she's the person that she is is refreshing and helped me to see some of the same traps I've also fallen into in my own life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has come from a family that hides it's secrets or where abuse was present. I really admire Ms Field's life-long struggle to become the person she always knew was in there somewhere.

Author: Jimmy Moore

Dr. Jason Fung earned his medical degree at the University of Toronto, where he also completed his internal medicine residency before heading to UCLA for a fellowship in nephrology (a branch of medicine concerned with the kidneys). He currently practices as a kidney specialist in Toronto. During the course of treating thousands of patients, it became clear to Dr. Fung that the epidemic of type 2 diabetes and obesity was getting worse. The prevailing dietary recommendations for reducing dietary fat and calories were clearly ineffective. In response, he founded the Intensive Dietary Management program (intensivedietarymanagement.com) to provide a unique treatment focus for type 2 diabetes and obesity that promotes simple yet effective dietary changes rather than focusing on medications. Jimmy Moore catapulted onto the health scene in 2004 after a phenomenal 180-pound weight loss enabled him to come off prescription drugs for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and respiratory problems. He is the energetic personality behind the uber-popular blog Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb and the host of the longest-running and top-ranked iTunes health podcast, The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show, as well as Low-Carb Conversations and Keto Talk. He has interviewed well over 1,000 of the world’s top health experts and has dedicated his life to helping people get the best information possible about nutrition so they can make the right decisions for their health. He’s the international bestselling author of The Ketogenic Cookbook, Keto Clarity, and Cholesterol Clarity. Learn more about Jimmy and his work at www.livinlavidalowcarb.com.

Thousands of books have been written about the latest and greatest diets that will help people lose weight and improve health. But a key element in any successful nutritional health program is a tried-and-true method that most people haven’t thought about—yet it could be revolutionary for taking health to the next level. This ancient secret is fasting.

Fasting is not about starving oneself. When done right, it’s an incredibly effective therapeutic approach that produces amazing results regardless of diet plan. In fact, Toronto-based nephrologist Dr. Jason Fung has used a variety of fasting protocols with more than 1,000 patients, with fantastic success. In The Complete Guide to Fasting, he has teamed up with international bestselling author and veteran health podcaster Jimmy Moore to explain what fasting is really about, why it’s so important, and how to fast in a way that improves health. Together, they make fasting as a therapeutic approach both practical and easy to understand.

The Complete Guide to Fasting explains:

• why fasting is actually good for health
• who can benefit from fasting (and who won’t)
• the history of fasting
• the various ways to fast: intermittent, alternate-day, and extended fasting
• what to expect when starting to fast
• how to track progress while fasting
• the weight loss effects of fasting
• how to ward off potential negative effects from fasting

The book also provides tools to help readers get started and get through their fasts, including a 7-Day Kick-Start Fasting Plan and healing liquid recipes.

Like A Magic Button for Weight Loss. Read the Book... It Will Change Your Life! Wow, I found the magic button for weight loss. After having limited success with the whole field of dieting options I stumbled across a talk on youtube by Dr Jason Fung talking about fasting. After the video I searched and ended up buying the audio book and the hard copy. The concept initially terrified me for some reason and when talking to friends who fasted I just shook my head and though there is no way I could do that. One of the fasting approaches recommended however seemed pretty easy. Have dinner and fast for 24 hours, having dinner the next day. I have done that accidentally at times! Well after a 6 days of doing this, I lost 10 lbs (40 to go) and realized that what I thought was breakfast or lunchtime hunger was just my body reminding me of a long held habit of eating I have had. It is incredible that over such a short fast you can turn off insulin based fat storage, and start burning fat. A side benefit is that increased metal clarity occurs fairly quickly and offers additional incentive to fast. Also my moderately elevate blood pressure is getting back to normal. Leads me to think that we have a obesity problem in the country because people eat 3 meals a day and insulin based fat storage never turns off. This is another area where the industrial food business exploits us in their marketing and so called guidelines. I am now convinced there is absolutely no need for 3 meals a day.Now the book recommends starting out the 24 hr fasting for a couple of days per week. I have decided to do it 5 or 6 times per week. I am pretty confident I can now get to any weight I want. I think the book is important in that it helps you break long held thoughts and misconceptions about eating and going without food. It also discusses other lengths of fasts that can range from 36 hour to weeks. It is so flexible you can do it anytime. And if I am fasting one day, and my friends invite me over for breakfast, or lunch no problem I will forget about fasting that day or have breakfast, but forget about lunch. In my opinion most people who have access to food have never experienced hunger, just mealtime urges. These urges are easy to identify and ignore after a few days (at least for me).I listened to the audio book first and then used the book for reinforcement for changing my thinking. There is quite a bit of repetition but this was necessary for me to truly break long held conventional thinking.Basically you are eating less food when only eating once per day. By having a long break between meals you body has time to get into fat burning mode. So while it seems like a magic button, it is not magic at all. You just have to forget about everything you have ever been taught or thought you knew about eating. This book is a great tool to change habits and conventional thinking.I will try to come back after I reach my goal weight and give an update. But I have no doubt that this is the solution that will allow me to control my weight to whatever level I choose. Read the book. It will change your life!
