Please, read something else. I am a counseling psychologist who specializes in clinical treatment and research of couples and marriage. I read this book out of curiosity.There are few books on the market that are 1) as popular as this book and 2) leave me more heartbroken due to misinformation.I think this book does well to highlight that love and respect are, indeed, very key aspects of relationships (for both partners, btw: women also need respect, and men also need love). I completely see how some, without a critical eye of the book, are positively impacted by the message.However, the author boldly claims that connection and communication are principles that only wives are interested in (false).Perhaps most harrowing, the author declares proudly that his book helped a woman return to her husband, who was abusive for many years, because she learned to "keep her mouth shut" and give him some respect (this is NOT how domestic abuse should be handled). He also shares a story where he was frustrated at his wife because she was frustrated with him for not getting a proper card (basically said don't get mad at me that i got the wrong card, just deal with it and don't get mad!) Another example that seemed particularly childish to me was that the author complained that his wife insisted he pick his wet towels up after his shower...Half of the book is literally the author discussing the blessing his book is and how important love and respect are (it could be easily shortened to about 50 pages without his self-affirming stories or reviews).Please, instead of this book, read: Love Sense or Created for Connection by Sue Johnson; The 7 Principles for Making Marriage Work by John Gottman; I Hear You by Michael Sorensen...... Anything else. Really.Great read. Great, awesome book. I'm in the mental health field and I appreciate this author's take on relationships and what they consider to be important. Truthfully I'm personally agnostic, but thankfully I was open enough to allow myself to read the book and incorporate those standard wants and desires from the opposite sex into a fitting role model for a true harmonious living. I can see how this information works and would encourage anyone in family counseling to pick up the book and give it a try.A new perspective I'm thankful for stumbling upon this book. Living in a world that propagates feminine empowerment to extremes I didn't realize how negatively those ideas were impacting my relationship through means of disrespect. I have stepped back, observing and practicing some of the teachings in this book, and have seen a positive impact on my perspective & relationship. The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars is due to the excessive amount of personal experiences at the beginning of the book. While a few are helpful I felt it could have been reduced down & gotten to the teachings sooner.

Art still allows for your imagination The Chamber of Secrets is in my opinion the weakest of the Harry Potter books. Still, it is a great read compared to 90% of other books in general, and 99% of other children's fantasy novels. The art in these books are simply amazing. They add to the story subtly, rather than take the story over as the movies did. To me, this is vital, as part of the joy of the Harry Potter world is the evocation of your imagination. I am happy to give my kids a little push with art, as they clearly still create their own images of quidditch, Hagrid, and the often explosive and unexpected effects of Ron's broken wand.Great price, but it is all 7 books combined ... Great price, but it is all 7 books combined into one volume and one table of contents; which makes navigating to different books and chapters a bit more difficult than if they were 7 distinct books.Pages missing!!!! I ordered this book for my daughter and she couldn’t put it down but at page 573, it jumped to 620. I’ve missed the return window. Just make sure to check the pages as soon as you receive the book.

good book The book started out good but discovered as I was reading it that it's missing almost 50 pages in the middle of the book. Disappointing and frusteratingBeautiful editions for fans & children These illustrated editions of Harry Potter were done right! All of the original text is there and the artwork is beautiful. Every page has something, whether it's an illustration that takes up a full double page spread, a little drawing in the corner, a thematic border, or just a visually textured background. It may sound chaotic, like the visuals could be too much and break up the flow of reading but it is not; it enhances the story as you turn the pages and delight in the new visuals that each page brings. I imagine these would be a great way to bring children into the story, but they're so nice you may want to protect and collect these beauties. This book is for children who can read and write the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. Words that are familiar to children, such as hat, bat, rat and cat are grouped by the vowel and consonant combination of the last two letters. Through games and exercises that encourage children to trace letters and read aloud, children will learn how to read and write simple words.

Excellent preparation for early reading Excellent preparation for early readingThe skill of sounding out words is critical to learning to read and write. This skill is not as easy to learn as many adults think. One needs to be able to recognize the sound value of letters instantly, and be able to blend those sounds to put together words, or for writing, to decompose the spoken words into sounds and letters. Used according to the instructions, this book provides an excellent primer for those skills, and thus an excellent introduction to word reading.Before starting this book, the child should be familiar with the lowercase alphabet and with the sounds - not just the names - associated with the letters. It is okay if letter recognition still requires a second or two of thought or is not always accurate, as the practice in this book will help make that recognition fluent. Children who are not familiar with the alphabet may wish to start with the preceding book in the Kumon preschool English series, My First Book of Lowercase Letters, or with the book before that, My First Book Of Uppercase Letters (Kumon Workbooks).To make the learning process as easy as possible, the words in this Rhyming Words book are composed of a single leading consonant with its most common sound, followed by a short vowel, followed finally by a single final consonant with its most common sound. Because the spellings of all the words in the book are regular, the student does not get confused with different sounds for the same letter or different letters for the same sound.The book uses 52 three letter words. These words use all five of the short vowels, and use fifteen of the most common consonants. The letters j, k, and y are excluded, likely because of potential confusion with uses of g, c, and i for some of the same sounds, and q, v, and x are excluded likely because of rarity of occurrence in three letter words.After a review of the alphabet, the words are presented in groups of four, with each group of four words rhyming so that the child can focus on formation of different words by varying only the initial letter of the word. For each group of four words, there are four workbook pages: first a page that introduces the four words using associated pictures; then a page where the four pictures and associated words are presented in random order to be recited, three times; then a page where each of the four words in the group are traced, three times, with progressively lighter tracing guides; and finally a page where each of the four words in the group are traced twice with even lighter tracing guides and then written once without a tracing guide.On each page where a word is written, the word is spoken once, then the sounds of the individual letters are made as each letter is written. This reinforces the relationship between the sound of each letter and its corresponding shape in a way that highlights how words can be broken down into those individual sounds.There are at least two groups of four words for each short vowel. After all the words for a short vowel have been covered, there is a pair of review pages for each two groups of words. On the first review page of the pair, each of the two groups of four rhyming words is presented with associated pictures, in an order to be recited. On the second review page, each of the eight words is written once. As before, the word is recited before it is written, and the sound of each letter is made each time that letter is written.At the end of the book are a series of additional review pages, again with each pair of review pages covering two groups of four words each. The first page of the pair requires the child to trace his way through a grid of words by following the path made by one group of rhyming words and ignoring words from the second group. On the second page, each of the eight words from the two groups is written once after reciting the word, again with each letter sound made as the letter is written.The specific pages of the book are as follows:First, two pages reviewing the alphabet. On each of these pages, the child traces all the letters of the alphabet, in lowercase, in order. On the first page, there is a strong tracing guide; on the second page, there is a barely visible tracing guide.Then, four groups of four rhyming words each are presented, all with "a" as the vowel, for a total of 16 pages. There are then 4 pages of review for these words.Then, two groups of four rhyming words each are presented, both with "e" as the vowel, for a total of 8 pages, followed by 2 pages of review.Then, three groups of four rhyming words each are presented, all with "i" as the vowel, for a total of 12 pages, followed by 4 pages of review. The words ending in "ig" - "pig", "wig", "dig", "big" - appear in both pairs of review pages.Then, two groups of four rhyming words each are presented, both with "o" as the vowel, for a total of 8 pages, followed by 2 pages of review.Then we get to the "u" words, again with two groups of four rhyming words each being presented, for a total of 8 pages plus 2 review pages.Finally, 12 additional review pages cover all groups of four rhyming words presented - except for the words ending in "ig", which having already appeared in two pairs of review pages.In total, each of the 52 words presented is written 8 times and spoken a similar number of times, for a total of 416 written word repetitions and 1248 written letter repetitions, over the course of 80 workbook pages.I first used this book with my older son, when he was 5. I sat by him when he worked on the book, to encourage him, help him figure out words where the picture was ambiguous, and to make sure he followed the instructions by sounding out the words and letters as he wrote them. By the end of the book, his association of letters with sounds was reliable, he understood how the sounds fit together to make up a word, and he was starting to be able to identify words from the letters, and not just from the pictures. He did need additional practice, which was provided by the subsequent book in the series, My Book Of Rhyming Words And Phrases (Kumon Workbooks); after going through that book, he could sound out and identify three letter words reliably. Now, at 6, he can read simple texts and sound out most words.I later used this book with my younger son starting when he was 3 year 7 months and finishing shortly after his fourth birthday, with similar results. He is now about half way through the subsequent book and is likely to be able to reach simple texts by the time he starts school at age 5.As with all Kumon workbooks, this book is self paced, with a gentle progression. The progression in this book may seem minimal, but in the context of the Kumon preschool English workbook sequence, there is a strong, thorough progression, starting with hand eye coordination skills, then with letter formation and sounding, then with the word sounding in this and the following workbook, and finally progressing through more complex words, phrases, and sentences, ultimately to a child who is ready to read and write.I really like this book I really like this book. I have been finding something to teach my four year old phonics. This books has variety of them and it made it fun to learn and write. I wish there are more activities but it will do.Great Book For Learning About Words That Rhyme! The Kumon series of books works by empowering children to succeed on their own. The books get successively more difficult as they build upon skills learned from the previous pages, so that by the end of the book the child has a sense of accomplishment and be ready to move on to the next level. The instructor is more of a mentor or coach than a teacher in a classroom.The Rhyming Words and Long Vowels book is designed to help teach your child words that use a long vowel sound and that rhyme together. For example, it starts off with words like cane, mane, lane, and plane. It has you connect a line between the word and the picture. Then it has you trace, say, and then write the words to get a multi-sensory approach to learning them. It goes through each of the vowels, and also addresses the different pronunciations of the "y".Here is a list of the words included:"A" - cane, mane, lane, plane, hay, bay, day, play, rain, pain, brain, train"E" - bee, see, tree, knee, feet, meet, sheet, street, meat, seat, heat, neat"I" - hide, ride, wide, slide, bite, kite, white, write, cry, fly, sky, fry"O" - bone, cone, phone, stone, boat, coat, goat, float, hose, nose, rose, close"U" - tune, dune, cube, tube, cute, flute, glue, blue At the end of each set of vowel words, it has a few review pages of activities, that include writing the words, mazes and putting them in a sentence. I highly recommended this workbook for learning about long vowels, rhyming and even writing skills!
